Special Guest Saturday: Meet Kayleigh!

Visit her Bookstagram!

Hi, my name is Kayleigh! I am 34 years old and I live in Pittsburgh with my husband, Nate (married almost 9 years, together 11 years) and our two sons, Ayden (6) and Liam (3). When I am not reading, I work full time in marketing for a healthcare company called TeleTracking, where I run social media, email marketing and campaign efforts. I absolutely love to exercise and I am an avid cycler (follow me on @onepeloton - Kfontana) and love to do yoga.

Q: Why did you decide to create a bookstagram?

A: When I was younger, I had a reading disability that caused me to see a specialist. I struggled for a few years and once I caught the hang of it, I couldn't stop. I started sharing book recommendations a few years ago on Facebook and so many people told me that I should share my passion through other social media outlets. After quietly following a few other bookstagram accounts, I started my own in January of 2020. I can't believe how welcoming and warm this community is. I've made so many new friends, met new authors and discovered book genres I never thought I'd love!

Q: What genres are your favorite to read?

A: I am addicted to mystery and thriller novels. I always find myself reaching for those kind of books because I love to be scared. I also love True Crime... there is something incredibly fascinating about serial killers! I also love historical fiction and romantic comedies. In 2021, I pledge to read more memoirs... they're just not my thing, but I am hoping to collect some good recommendations over the next few months.

Q: How do you rate your books?

A: I use a star rating system... but what does that really mean? I'd like to start ranking on "must read" ability. I really struggle with giving negative reviews, but some books just aren't for everyone. That is the absolute beauty of being a reader... and using social media to share honest reviews.

Q: What method do you use when reviewing books: mini reviews, pros/cons list, multiple paragraphs going into detail, etc?

A: I spend WAY TOO MUCH TIME ON REVIEWS. It's exhausting most days, but if I invest my time in a book, it deserves my full attention and comprehensive review. I have started including a synopsis in my reviews, which I don't necessarily agree with because I think Goodreads or the publishers page does a better job at summarizing that I ever could, but from recent feedback, people really like that being included. I speak from my heart... things that worked for me and didn't work for me. I also keep things vague... because SPOILER ALERT... I never read a review OR the synopsis before I start a book. I will pick something up based on someone's star rating or recommendation, but I go in blind every single time.

Q: Do you have any auto-buy authors?

A: SO MANY! Karin Slaughter, Kristin Hannah, Elin Hilderbrand, Hannah Mary McKinnon, Samantha Downing, Kimberly Belle, Christina Lauren and Colleen Hoover.

Q: What are three adjectives you’d use to describe yourself?

A: Passionate, loyal, and giving.
