Special Guest Saturday: Meet Claire!

View her Bookstagram

Hi y'all! I'm Claire. I'm 24 years old and I've lived in Texas my entire life. I'm an only child, but I'm very close with my large extended family. In my professional life, I am a child life specialist. I help kids who’ve been admitted to the hospital by educating them about everything they’ll experience, providing them support during medical interventions, and creating opportunities for play. Besides reading, I love spicy tacos, watching Schitt’s Creek or Grey’s Anatomy, and cuddling with my 4 year old Golden Retriever/Labrador mix, Buddy.

Thanks to my mom, I’ve been a bookworm since I was a toddler. I’m a huge supporter of libraries and independent bookstores (shoutout to Blue Willow Bookshop in Houston and Interabang in Dallas). My favorite genres to read are contemporary fiction and thrillers. My auto-buy authors are Fredrik Backman, Elizabeth Acevedo, Angie Thomas, Angie Kim, and Bryan Washington. Q: When did you decide to create your bookstagram account? A: My first post was on April 3rd, 2018! I've been a huge bookworm for my entire life. However, I've never found friends that loved books as much as I did. As I read so many amazing books, I didn't have anyone to discuss them with. I randomly searched #books on Instagram and discovered this community that I never knew existed. Q: Has your reading speed changed since joining this community? A: I feel like it's definitely accelerated my already fast reading speed. Prior to joining bookstagram, I was obviously aware that there are a ton of books in the world. However, it's a completely different thing to find new books every time I refresh my feed. I read 82 books last year, when my goal was 50. This year, I raised the goal to 60 and am already at 35.  Q: Who’s the first person you “met” in this community that impacted your life? A: Honestly, I was really nervous to meet people in real life. I feel silly saying this, but there's definitely some vulnerability in agreeing to meet people you've spent months communicating with. I'm so glad I did though, because I never would've met the fabulous Dallas/Fort Worth bookstagram community. There are far too many people to list, but I absolutely adore them all. I've met so many strong and encouraging women that have uplifted me at several points. Q: 2020 is a great year for book releases, is there a particular title you’re excited about? A: Without a doubt, Anxious People by Fredrik Backman. If you haven't read the Beartown duology, you are missing out! Q: If you had to pick three adjectives to describe yourself, what would they be? A: Passionate, adventurous, independent.
